May Day baskets are one of spring’s sweetest traditions—flowers secretly left on doorsteps to brighten someone’s day.
May Day flower traditions originate from ancient European spring festivals like Beltane, celebrating renewal and the return of spring. In more recent history, people have welcomed the arrival of spring by leaving small baskets of flowers on the doorsteps of friends, neighbors, and loved ones—a simple, joyful gesture meant to spread a little seasonal cheer.
In this workshop, you’ll create your own May Day cone basket, then fill it with a hand-tied bouquet of fresh seasonal flowers and greenery. Our floral team will teach you the traditional spiral bouquet technique used by florists to build beautiful, balanced arrangements by hand. This method strengthens the structure of your bouquet so the stems naturally hold their shape once tied and wrapped.
We’ll start by practicing the spiral technique with uniform stems so you can focus on shape and placement. Once that “aha” moment clicks (it will!), we’ll move on to building a full bouquet together using a recipe of seasonal flowers selected by our floral team. Along the way, you’ll learn how to combine focal flowers, filler, and foliage to create a bouquet that feels lush, balanced, and gift-ready.
At the end of class, you’ll tuck your finished bouquet into your handmade paper cone and wrap it with ribbon—ready to hang on a doorstep, surprise a neighbor, gift to a friend, or bring a little spring cheer to your own home.
Participants don’t need any previous floral design experience. All flowers and materials are included in the class price.
