Locally owned since 2019

About Us

A locally owned plant and flower shop with daily delivery, hands-on workshops, and a roster of handmade pottery and gifts—based in Tacoma, with a second location opening in Centralia, Washington in 2026.

Locally Sourced Flowers

We work with local flower farms to bring you bouquets that are fresh, seasonal, and more sustainable than anything you'll find at a big-box florist. We are committed to sourcing 60-90% of our stems from nearby farms, which means shorter supply chains, longer-lasting blooms, and flowers that reflect the season.

Locally sourced flowers aren't just better for the environment, they're better for the people who grow them. Your purchase directly supports small farms, independent growers, and the regional floral community we're proud to be part of. From Bellingham to Napavine, these farms make our work possible, and we love giving them a place to shine in every bouquet that leaves our shop.

  • Our Story

Fernseed started in a tiny storefront in Tacoma's Proctor neighborhood in 2019. In 2020, we expanded to a larger storefront on South Tacoma Way and started offering daily flower delivery—sourcing 60-90% of our stems from local flower growers.

In 2025 we purchased the old Pioneer West garden center in Centralia, Washington, with plans to open our second location there in 2026.

    Katherine Raz

    Founder and owner since 2019

A fierce advocate for local business and champion of owner-occupied storefronts, Fernseed shop owner Katherine Raz is a speaker, writer, podcaster and organizer who believes in the power of small business to change local economies. Follow her Substack newsletter, Storefront Revolt.

When she's not repotting plants, building bouquets, or traveling to Washington D.C. to urge her elected officials to change how the economy works for small businesses, she's at her home in Lakewood listening to Alan Parsons Project on vinyl while yelling at her two kids to keep it down. When she grows up she wants to be a set decorator for film and television.
