Sometimes called Devil's Ivy, Golden pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is a robust vining plant with golden variegation on deep green leaves. It is a generous grower and an excellent first plant to propogate from cuttings.
CARE + MAINTENANCE
Light + temperature
Golden pothos thrive in bright, indirect light, although they are somewhat low-light tolerant. If light conditions are too low they will grow more slowly and may lose some variegation.
Maintain indoor temperatures of 65-85° F
Once potted, Golden pothos like their soil to dry out a bit between waterings. These plants are quite tolerant of an underwater; the leaves should spring right back up again if left unwatered for too long a stretch.
Golden pothos are beautiful, but toxic to cats and dogs. Please contact your veterinarian if you suspect a pet has ingested any part of the plant.
While Golden pothos is a classic hanging plant with beautiful trailing vines, it is equally at home on a shelf or counter top.
Occasional pruning with clean, sharp scissors may help plants stay full and vigorous. As a bonus, these cuttings may also be propogated!
Why are leaves on my Golden pothos turning yellow?
It is normal for older leaves on each vine to turn yellow and fall off occasionally, typically one at a time. If many leaves turn yellow at once or stems close to the soil feel soft, your Golden pothos has likely been overwatered.
My Golden pothos has long sections with no leaves, how do I fix it?
Since it is normal for older leaves to slowly fall off, long sections of bare vine may develop over time. New leaves will not grow on these sections. You may choose to prune these bare vines back, either close to the soil or just above the lowest remaining leaf. If the new sections of the vine have healthy leaves, you can always place the cutting in water to propogate and start a new plant, or pot it back in to your Golden pothos to make the crown full and lush again.
