One of the earliest signs of spring, pansies symbolize enduring love or admiration towards the recipient. With their beautiful, unique coloring and long vase life, pansies are growing in popularity as a cut flower as flower farmers find ways to increase the stem length. Pansies have long been tied to the idea of “free thinking” because of their name, which comes from the French pensée, meaning “pensive thought.” In Victorian floriography, giving someone pansies was a way to say “I’m thinking of you,” but it also came to symbolize open-minded reflection and intellectual freedom.
